I recently accumulated a lot of Amazon gift cards as payment from Amazon affiliates over a few years. As you can see, it’s over $1600 and since it’s locked down where I live, I can’t spend it on Amazon. Similarly, you might have received an Amazon gift card for Christmas or birthday presents. But you rather have actual cash to spend on essential stuff like rent and pay bills. Well, like always, your boy came up with a solution.

In this video, we’ll go through ways to use your Amazon Gift Cards besides Amazon. While these methods work directly for people in the US, others can also benefit from most of the services using a Smart DNS Proxy VPN.

1. Sell Amazon gift card for cash

Websites like Gameflip, Raise, Gift Card Granny, and many others even allow you to sell your unwanted Amazon gift card directly in exchange for cash. Generally, Amazon gift cards are listed at 2% to 15% off the card value. For example, if you have a gift worth $100, you can expect around $90 in cash.

I use Gameflip, so I’ll be giving you an overview of that. So, you have to create an account, then click on your profile icon and select ‘start selling’ from the drop-down option. You will see 3 options - click on the first one that says “I’ve something to sell”, and then you can sell a bunch of options - NFT, games, gift card, movies, etc.

Now, here’s an imp thing, before you sell anything, you have to fill in your basic details, upload a government ID with a selfie. Plus, it’ll take up to 2 to 3 days to verify all the details manually by Gameflip employees. 

Once verified, you are ready to sell your gift card. Simply copy-paste the Amazon gift card code. Another important thing to keep in mind: these methods will only work if you have a gift card code with you. Once you redeem the code in your Amazon account, you won’t be able to sell it. However, even if you have redeemed your gift card there's still hope, we’ll come to that later. 

Now, go back to Gameflip, enter the amount, code, and your discounted price, like if it code is for $40, I’m ready to sell it for $35. 

Once the buyer receives your gift card code, redeems and completes the transaction by rating, the money is deposited into your wallet; for example, I’ve got $35 in my account, which I sent to my wallet like Payoneer or Skrill, Unfortunately, there is no support for PayPal here. So, that’s another bummer. Also, every time you send money to your wallet, for example, I send $10, I received $8.80 and the rest of it was lost in transaction fees. Not to mention, banks will further detect currency conversion fees from it, there if you end up losing around 20 to 30% of the money. 

Overall, these are good trusted places to sell your Amazon gift card for cash. Alternatively, you can also use Craigslist or sell it on Subreddit called ‘r/giftcardexchange’ but in my opinion those are dicey and a lot of hassle. It’s much better to see if someone in your friends and family needs an Amazon gift card and sell it to them at a much cheaper discount.

2. Buy Google Play credits

If you often spend real cash buying games, books, audiobooks, movies, and more, from the Google play store or iPhone app store, then you can use your unwanted Amazon gift money to make those purchases, and save real cash.

All you have to do is buy a Google Play gift card on Amazon using your Amazon gift card. The minimum you have to buy is $25 worth of credit. Once done, you will get a code on your email. Now, take that code and redeem it on Google Play store. Make sure your Google Play store ID is linked to the US or else it won’t work for other countries, even if you use a VPN.

Once you have the Google Play credit, you’ll be able to buy audiobooks and even rent movies on YouTube which you can’t do with Amazon gift cards. For instance, as there’s no option to pay for Audible with my Amazon gift card, so, I started using my Google Play Credit to pay for the same books on Google Play Store for about $13 and then spend the remaining credits on my Google drive subscription.

Obviously, if you are in the Apple ecosystem, you can do the same thing by buying an Apple Gift Card. Moving on. 

3. Pay for Netflix

Similar to the Google Play credits, you can also buy gift cards for entertainment services like Netflix, Hulu, etc. and use them to pay for your subscription fees. Now, we have a detailed video on this, so I’ll keep this one short.

If you are already paying for Netflix with a credit/debit card, you can start using Amazon gift cards to buy Netflix gift cards. And then you’ll be able to pay for a subscription using those gift cards. Just go to the Amazon website, buy a Netflix gift card, again the minimum you can buy is $25, and check out, once you have received the code, simply go to Netflix redeem page. Remember it’s only for US as of now, so you will have to enable SDP VPN and paste the code. That’s it, now you are good to go. 

Now, you can go to your Netflix account, and under billing you can change your plans. As you can see, I’ve been paying for my Netflix for about a year using the Amazon gift card money and this method works flawlessly.

Similarly, you can do the same for all other services like Hulu, Spotify, Disney+, and more. Sadly, Amazon Prime Video is an exception here, which is an irony since you can’t use Amazon gift card on an Amazon service.

4. Shop with Amazon gift cards

If the above methods are too much for you to handle, you can always use your gift card to shop from your favorite websites. 

For example, while Amazon gift card is not a widely-accepted payment method, there’re a few online retailers who accept Amazon gift cards instead of cash. If you go to https://pay.amazon.com/ you can find the list of official vendors. Although, full disclosure, I’ve not personally used anyone but, since it’s Amazon recommend, you can trust them. 

So, next time when you’re shopping online, don’t forget about your excess gift card balance. This way, you’ll get full value for your money and can avoid the hassle of following tedious steps.

With so many ways to get rid of your unwanted Amazon gift card, you can get pretty much all you want in exchange. Alternatively, shopping for your loved ones is a straightforward solution. If not, you can always save the gift cards for future use as the Amazon gift cards never expire.
