There are times, when you might want to send music, photos, videos or even apk from your iPhone to your Android TV box like Mi Box or Shield TV. Now, if it was Android, this would be pretty easy. But turns out there is an extremely simple way for the iPhone as well. All you need is an active Wi-Fi connection, and you can send and receive any time file from Android TV to iPhone through a Wi-Fi network. Let’s see how to do it.
Send files from iPhone to Android TV
Step 1 - On you Android TV, head over to Google Play Store and download the Wi-Fi File Explorer app. It’s free and well optimized for Android TV OS. And while you are at it, also download a file manager on your Android TV.
Step 2 - Once done open the app. It’ll show you an IP address, provided that your Android TV is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Step 3- Now, head over to your iPhone, make sure it’s connected to same Wi-Fi network as your Android is. Open the Safari browser and type in the IP address that you saw before like 192.168.1.106:8000 and then press enter. Do keep in mind, the Wi-Fi file transfer app on your iPhone should be running on your TV the entire time, which basically acts a server. If you close the app, the connection will drop as well.
Step 4 - Once the connection is established, you will see a file manager of your Android TV with folders such as Downloads, DCIM etc. Zoom in on your iPhone to see them properly. Now say, I’ve to send a video file from my iPhone to Android TV. So, open the download folder and zoom in again. And under the upload box on the bottom right side, tap on it once and select the video, picture or any kind of file you want to send from your iPhone storage. That’s it. Wait for it to upload. The speed is pretty decent since it’s on Wi-Fi. A 1 GB video will take like one or two minutes. Once the file is sent, you will see it in the folder directory itself.
Step 5 - Now, head over to Android TV and open any file manager of your choice to see the file you just sent from iPhone. If you don’t have any file manager installed, go to the Play Store and download FX File manager. It’s pretty neat and clean.
Step 6 - open the FX File manager, and go to download folder and there you will find the video file.
Send files from Android TV to iPhone
The setup also works the other way around. Suppose you want to send a file you have on your Android TV to your iPhone. All you have to do is open the same Wi-Fi file transfer app on your Android TV and make a note of the IP address. Now head over to your iPhone, open the Safari browser and punch in the same IP address in the address bar. Once you see the Android TV file manager, zoom in, go the folder or files, that you want to download. Select them using the check box next to it and tap on the download option near it. That’s it, Safari will download it in the background and it works for all kind of files.
Overall, this is how you send file from iPhone to Android TV. I hope this helps you to solve your problem. The method also works for Android TV or pretty much any device with a browser.
