Do you like uber-melodramatic shows and people repeating themselves over and over again? Well, chances are you’re already watching Indian TV shows. The editing in these shows will put memento to shame.
But if you are an NRI living outside of India and are keen watch these shows, you might be struggling to catch them online because Amazon Prime Video doesn’t offer the shows unlike Hotstar, Voot, Sony liv and Yupp TV because of the broadcasting rights and such. Thankfully, you can bypass these geo-restrictions with Smart DNS Proxy and watch all of these shows from anywhere.
One way to go about it, is to get Indian TV channels package from your local cable provider. But, most of these subscriptions come in bundles and you cannot choose just one TV channel, like Zee TV. So, you end up paying for a bundle when you just want to watch a few shows.
A better alternative is to use Smart DNS Proxy. Smart DNS is a lot like VPN, i.e. it lets you access geo-restricted content, but unlike a VPN, it’s handcrafted from streaming sites, so you get better speed and you watch your shows in any devices. Here is how you go about it.
Almost every Indian channel has an official website where you can watch their shows for free, mostly, but only from India. If you are not in India then you’ll get the message on no availability of the show in your country.
Thankfully, you can bypass these geo-restrictions with Smart DNS Proxy.
At this moment, Smart DNS Proxy supports, - Amazon Prime, ZeeTV, Tata Sky, Hotstar and Voot, and a few others.
So, here is how it works.
Head over to Smart DNS Proxy and create a free trial account. It’s free for 14 days, and then it’s just $5 per month.
Once you are in, go to the how-to setup page on the top menu bar, and you’ll find the setup instructions for all kind of devices, we recommend setting it up on your router, this way, all the devices connected to your router will have access to geo-restricted internet. But for this instance, we’ll show you how to set it up on your Windows computer.
-
Go to the start menu and get to the control panel to access your network settings
-
Click the Network and internet link and then click on Network and sharing center
-
Next, you need to click on change adapter settings which shows you your basic network and connections. Like your Ethernet and Wi-Fi.
-
Right click on the interface through which you’re connected to internet (most probably it’s going to be your Wi-Fi) and then choose properties
A new dialog box will pop up.
-
Here make sure the IPv6 protocol is unchecked (in most case it is) and then double click on the IPv4
This will open another dialog box.
-
Now you’d want to select the “use the following DNS server addresses” and key in the primary and secondary DNS server IP addresses (which again you can see on the screen right now, just sure these DNS server is closest to your physical location to get faster streaming).
-
And then paste them in the preferred and alternate DNS server IP’s.
-
Make sure Validate settings by clicking on OK (if present) and do that again for Wi-Fi properties dialog box.
And that’s it.
Close the window, and you might have to restart your computer for it take effect.
Go to your smart DNS proxy account and refresh the page, if you have done everything right, you’ll see a green tick next to DNS Setup.
And once you’ve assured that, you need to activate the IP address next, to setup your Current IP in our system.
Now, go to Hotstar or Voot , or any supported sites, and as you can see all of them are working fine. You will still need Indian username and password, if the content is behind paywall, but now that you have come so far, that wouldn't want to stop, would you?
Now, this should work for most people on home network. But what if you are on the go and still want to catch up with your favorite shows? Well, in that case you can use our other service called smart VPN. Unlike a smart DNS which only works on ISP Wi-Fi network, smart VPN also works on your mobile data, meaning you’ll be able to watch your favorite Indian shows on the go.
Here is how to set it up.
Again, head over Smart DNS Proxy.com and login to your account. Next under the account section, go to VPN, and grab your VPN username, we’ll need this later. Do note that you’ll need to be a paid customer to take advantage of our awesome VPN service.
Now, Smart DNS Proxy is available for all platform including Windows, Mac, Android and iOS. However, for the sake of simplicity, I’ll show you how to set it up on Android.
Head over to the Android store and search for Smart DNS Proxy VPN, once you’ve found it, download and install it.
You’d need to login to your VPN account, use the new username that we just created for your VPN login. Your VPN account password is the same as your Smart DNS Proxy password,
Once you’re in the app, you can choose which country you’d want to masquerade into and select India. The cool thing about Smart DNS Proxy VPN is, it also supports torrents, which almost no other VPN provider does.
Now, open the Hotstar or Tatasky app and as you can see it’s working fine. Time to watch some sh***y television. Nah, I’m just kidding.
Don’t you think, you should add something personal here, this is generic. How about some big boss drama or insider joke?
